One of the new super-stars of the appellation, Yves Cuilleron, who also produces red and white St.-Joseph as well as Cote Rotie, is best known for his dazzling cuvees of Condrieu. The classical bottling of 1994 Condrieu (30% of which is vinified in small barrels), is a wine of considerable richness, elegance, and style. It offers up the tell-tale tropical fruit, honeysuckle, and peach-like aroma, crisp acidity, and sensational purity (a hallmark of all the Cuilleron wines). It should drink well for 1-2 years. Cuilleron deserves more recognition; he has become one of the better producers of Condrieu. He fashioned two excellent 1991s. The 1991 Condrieu (regular cuvee) exhibits a beautiful nose of spring flowers and apricots. It is followed by ripe, medium to full-bodied, elegant flavors which are presented in a rich, impeccably pure, well-balanced format. Drink it over the next 1-2 years.
