A stronger, darker effort than the 2018, Delas's 2019 Grignan les Adhemar is very much a return to form, blending black cherries and black olives into a sturdy, medium to full-bodied effort. With a finish that's marked by dusty tannins and ample length, it should drink well for up to five years from the vintage, perhaps longer.

From a little-known appellation (formerly the Coteaux du Tricastin), the 2018 Grignan les Adhemar is a tank-aged blend of approximately 80% Grenache and 20% Syrah. In bottle long enough to have lost some of its ebullient fruit, it offers hints of strawberry compote, tarragon and black olives on the nose, while the palate is medium-bodied and supple. Not the strongest vintage for this cuvée; drink up.

An 80-20 of Grenache and Syrah from a little-known appellation (it was formerly known as Coteaux du Tricastin), the 2017 Grignan les Adhemar features dark-fruited aromas of mulberries and black cherries, tinged with black olive and espresso. It's a plump, medium-bodied blend with just enough silky tannins to give it shape and definition on the finish. It should retail around $12, making it a terrific value.

Winemaker Jacques Granges and the team at Delas have been longtime advocates for this appellation, which lies somewhere between the Northern and Southern Rh?ne. The 2016 Grignan les Adhemar features herbal notes of bay and thyme, plenty of ripe black cherry fruit and just a bit of savory black olive. This blend of 80% Grenache and 20% Syrah is medium-bodied, with supple tannins and warm, mouth-filling flavors that linger on the finish. It should drink well for at least 5 years.

At 12 bucks, the 2015 Grignan les Adhemar is a steal. Possessing a ruby/purple color as well as forward, polished notes of ripe Bing cherries, jammy raspberries, spice and garrigue, drink this medium-bodied, straight up charming, gulpable, but far from simple effort over the coming 4-5 years.
