The 2009 Oscar Semmler Shiraz was aged 21 months in new and one-year-old French hogsheads. Deep garnet-purple colored, it has ripe blueberry and mulberry notes over scents of earth, truffles, game plus hints of toast and soy. Taut, muscular and medium to full bodied in the mouth, it is well structured with a firm level of grainy tannins and crisp acidity. The finish is long, layered and savory. Full bodied, rich and tight-knit, it has firm, wonderfully fine and ripe tannins plus refreshing acid lingering into the long finish. The purple/black 2006 Oscar Semmler Shiraz is a blend of the finest parcels from the St. Jakobi vineyard and was barrel-fermented and aged in French oak for 22 months. It offers up a full-throttle perfume of pain grille, pencil lead, truffle, espresso, wild blueberry, and blackberry. Plush on the palate, ripe and surprisingly forward, this succulent Shiraz has the balance to blossom for another 4-6 years. Drink it from 2013 to 2026.
