The 1997 Benchmark is a proprietary blend of 76% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Merlot, and 12% Cabernet Franc, with 14.6% alcohol. It boasts an opaque saturated ruby/purple color as well as a tight but promising nose of black currants, raspberries, earth, minerals, and tar. Although extremely concentrated, this wine retains its elegance and overall symmetry. As it sits in the mouth, additional layers and nuances develop. Another 1-3 years of cellaring should prove beneficial, and it should age well for 15+ years. For my taste, it is the finest Cabernet-based wine Iron Horse has yet produced. Bravo!Tel.
