The 2007 Barbaresco Faset is very pretty in this vintage. Sweet dark cherries, flowers, licorice and spices come together beautifully in this soft, voluptuous Barbaresco. Nothing in particular stands out, just the wine’s exceptional finesse and elegance. High-toned floral notes wrap around the enveloping finish. This isn’t a huge 2007, but rather a wine that conquers all of the senses through its superb sense of harmony. It is everything Barbaresco should be. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2024. The 2006 Barbaresco Faset is rather lightweight and fleeting, with attractive aromatics but only modest fruit. There is excellent balance to be found in the glass, but one can only wonder how long that might last as the fruit appears to be fading rather quickly. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2014. The 2001 Barbaresco Faset, from an unjustly obscure vineyard located right next to Asili, leaves few doubts about its stature. Elegant and smoky aromas of tar, roses, and cinnamon are followed by a firm and shapely palate, a solid finish with ample notes of chocolate and licorice, and an important persistence.
