The 2010 Aglianico del Vulture Il Sigillo is slightly tighter and more streamlined than the 2009 vintage before it. The quality of fruit here is compact and focused with a very precise bouquet that offers equal billing to dark fruit, spice and dusty volcanic tones of ash, mineral and smoke. The wine is distinctive and profoundly beautiful and will appeal to those who are predisposed to the authentic and sometimes rustic expressions that Aglianico from the blackened slopes of the Vulture volcano. I really could not be more enthusiastic about the Il Sigillo family of wines. The 2010 vintage also differs from the 2009 in terms of its firmness and structure. The 2009 vintage appears more immediate and slightly softer. But the 2010 vintage shows an even greater potential for aging. This is a wine to be enjoyed in time.
