Two delicious wines that are relatively new offerings are the 1995 and 1994 Chateauneuf du Pape Les Cedres blanc. Very little is made, but in both vintages this wine reached nearly 14% natural alcohol. The 1995 Chateauneuf du Pape Les Cedres blanc exhibits more of an apricot/peach-scented nose, ripe fruit, and plenty of power, body, and alcohol. Interestingly, the Jaboulets believe the small percentage of Picardin (one of the rarest of the permitted southern Rhone varietals) takes on a Viognier character when fermented at cold temperatures, and these two wines do taste as if some Viognier were included in the blend.
