The 1993 Vega Sindoa Merlot is a refreshing rarity in a marketplace awash with pathetically vegetal, thin, acidic, suspicious New World Merlots. This offering exhibits a dark ruby color, an attractive display of varietal character (cherry, mocha, spice), ripe fruit, medium body, admirable purity and cleanliness, and a spicy, medium-bodied finish. Soft and round, it is ideal for drinking over the next 2-4 years. Bodegas Nekeas is one of the most progressive, modern wineries in northern Navarra. They are doing considerable experimentation in one of the cooler micro-climates of this area. If you haven't already figured it out, I'll say it again - these wines are exceptional bargains.
