The Chapoutier 1993 Banyuls - assembled from more than one lot but amounting to fewer than 2,000 bottles, filled in 2009 - displays purple plum preserves and rich chocolate accented with juniper, black pepper, and coffee. It lacks the bright juiciness or salinity that helped lend the corresponding 1994 such appeal and palate persistence, but this nonetheless finishes long, soothing, and capable of doing excellent service with various desserts or savories, probably for close to a decade.
