A brilliant effort, the 2002 Clochemerle (54% Grenache, 40% Shiraz, and 6% Mourvedre) was aged in equal parts French and American 450 liter pungeons/hogsheads as well as smaller, older wood barrels. It exhibits a southern Rhone-like garrigue note intermixed with complex kirsch liqueur, earthy, leathery, roasted meat, raspberry, cherry, and black currant aromas and flavors. With a gorgeous texture, good opulence, full body, and a seamless, lush finish, it can be enjoyed now and over the next 5-7 years. Importer: Dan Philips, The Grateful Palate, Oxnard, CA; tel.
