Quietly and competently (mirroring the proprietors' personalities), Chateau Montelena's Cabernet Sauvignon Calistoga Cuvee gets better and better. More estate fruit is being added to this blend in order to bulk it up. The 1998 (13.9% alcohol) is very good. It exhibits a dark plum/purple color in addition to dense, sweet black currant aromas, soft tannin, and fat, creamy, cassis flavors with hints of tobacco, spice box, and dried herbs.
