The mineral-scented 1999 Gewurztraminer Rangen de Thann Clos St.-Urbain is reminiscent of a Tokay-Pinot Gris than a Gewurztraminer. Copious quantities of smoke and spice can be discerned in its lush yet detailed character. Minerals, metallic shavings, cinnamon, and cardamon can be found in its flavor profile. While it will not satisfy consumers yearning for an archetypal Gewurztraminer, those desiring a highly focused, spicy Tokay will be delighted with this offering. Drink it over the next 7-8 years.
