Matured entirely in French oak (35% new), the 2007 Elms Vineyard Reserve Syrah has rich black fruit on the nose with polished oak dominating. Very sleek and smooth on the palate, no rough edges here with plush blueberry and cassis towards the finish. I can understand how this won awards in its homeland as it is very seductive, but personally I feel that it does not have the same level of intellect as other Syrahs. Drink over 5-6 years.
