This Backsberg Chardonnay has a wonderful, vibrant nose with beeswax, honeycomb and a touch of marmalade. It is not a million miles away from a vin jaune and it displays commendable vibrancy. The palate is medium-bodied with very fine balance and good acidity. It is harmonious with touches of beeswax, marzipan and almond, although it is its viscosity that really offers pleasure. With great length and weight, this is an unabashed mature Chardonnay. Tasted May 2011.
