The 1998 Mary Kathleen (normally a blend of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Merlot) is a spectacular, opaque purple-colored effort with tremendous aging potential. It offers a promising nose of cassis liqueur, cedar, blackberries, vanilla, and spice. Full-bodied, with fabulous purity and symmetry, and a mouthfilling, palate-staining style without any heaviness or astringency, it requires 1-2 years of cellaring, and should drink well for two decades.
