Aromas of stone fruits, citrus zest, toasted nuts and smoke introduce the 2020 Meursault-Blagny 1er Cru La Pièce Sous Le Bois, a medium to full-bodied, satiny and lively wine that's bright and mineral, concluding with a saline finish.

Displaying scents of crisp green orchard fruit, apple blossom, citrus oil and fresh bread, the 2019 Meursault-Blagny 1er Cru La Pièce Sous Le Bois is medium-bodied, satiny and precise, with tangy acids and a lively, mouthwatering profile.

The latest rendition of a bottling Pernot has produced sine 1973, the 2017 Meursault-Blagny 1er Cru La Pièce Sous Le Bois offers up attractive aromas of blanched almonds, white flowers and fresh apple, followed by a medium-bodied palate that's bright and chiseled, with less flesh on its bones than the other Pernot premiers crus, reflecting its high altitude location.

The 2011 Meursault Blagny La Piece Sous Le Bois shows good depth and body in a soft, caressing expression of Meursault. White flowers, flint and pears are layered into the vibrant finish. Anticipated maturity: 2012+. Pernot bottled all of the 2011s in late June, the earliest I know of in Burgundy, especially for the higher-end appellations. Because of the early harvest, the fermentations were done quickly. The wines were racked into tank in March for fining, where they stayed until they were bottled. The Pernot 2007 Meursault La Piece Sous Le Bois offers aromas of lightly toasted almond, with poached pear and apple, wreathed with wood smoke. Peach kernel bitterness and chalk – along with the aforementioned smokiness – offer some contrast to the ripe fruit on exhibit here, but with marginally less polish or generosity than the village Puligny. This could use a couple of years in the bottle, and ought to be worth following for 5-7 years. Veteran Paul Pernot followed up his superb though alcoholically outsized 2006s with an equally impressive collection of 2007s that he characterizes as more generous than but in many respects similar to his 2004s. He harvested most of his Chardonnay between the 6th and mid September. This site north of Folatieres is monopolized by Pernot and the Jadot-owned Duc de Magenta domaine.
