Part of the so-called Selection Schwander, the Tua Rita 2019 Case Due is a well-priced blend of Merlot, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon. The bouquet shows terrific sharpness and directness with black fruit and concentrated flavors. In fact, the freshness of the fruit is underlined across the wine's sweet tannins and supple texture. Production is 22,000 bottles, and the Selection Schwander line is made in collaboration with a Swiss partner.

Following Stefano Frascolla's suggestion during our virtual tasting session via Zoom, I tasted this wine immediately after the far more approachable Rosso dei Notri. The Tua Rita 2018 Case Due brings us up a level in complexity, although the wine falls flat and shallow quicker than expected. The wine offers a good sounding board from which we can go on to taste the estate's top wines such as Redigaffi and Giusto di Notri. The blend is Merlot, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon, and although this wine was born as a private-label project, it is now commercially available. This vintage takes an extra moment or two to open, and it definitely shows more loosely knit or tertiary fruit tones with black plum, dried blackberry, spice and cured leather. Those evolved characteristics appear distinctly in this vintage. The wine was bottled in August of last year, with some 30,000 bottles produced, and is already on the market. I'm going to suggest a near-term drinking window so that you can capture the fresher side of that fruit.

The 2017 Case Due is a straight-shooting, value-priced expression of Merlot, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon that survived a hot 2017 growing season without a scratch. This wine shows depth without losing its focus, and the well-delineated dark fruit is very prominent in this edition. It is a dark and spicy red that would be fabulous with a grilled porterhouse steak seasoned with lots of salt and pepper.

Here's a well-priced and easy-drinking blend of Merlot (that adds fruity softness), Cabernet Sauvignon (that adds structure) and Syrah (that adds dark fruit and spice). The 2016 Case Due is part of Tua Rita's Selection Schwander portfolio of products. This is a highly attractive and approachable Tuscan blend that offers pretty fruit intensity and richness spread over a bright, mid-weight body.

The is the second year of production for this relatively new wine. The well-priced 2014 Case Due is equal parts Merlot, Caberent Savignon and Syrah. This wine is born in some of the newest vineyards that Stefano Frascolla planted in 2008 and 2004. Fruit from the older vineyard planted in 2004 will now go to the Giusto di Nostri bottling instead. This wine exhibits lots of Cabernet-driven personality with dark fruit, spice and firmness at the back. The wine is fresh, vibrant and easy to drink. At this low price point, I can't imagine a better value from Coastal Tuscany.
