The 2005 Single Vineyard Belford Semillon reveals a moderately intense nose of lime leaf, laksa leaves, fresh sage, grapefruit zest and coriander seed. Dry and crisp in the mouth, this light-bodied wine has a good amount of citrus and fresh herb flavors, finishing long with lingering chalk / mineral notes. Approachable now, it could use another year or two in bottle and should drink best 2012-2020+.
Tyrrell’s continues to set a very high benchmark in the Hunter, offering a broad range of wines across many price points and styles that can’t fail to impress. Australia’s original Chardonnay – Vat 47 – is partially fermented in stainless steel before being transferred into new, one and two year old French oak barriques. Malo-lactic is avoided. It is matured on yeast lees for around six months prior to blending and bottling.
