The 2004 Barolo Cerequio shows superb clarity and definition, with lovely notes of dark raspberries, black cherries, earthiness, menthol, spices and toasted oak. This is a wine that is all about precision and granularity in its detail. The tannins build on the finish, so a degree of patience is warranted with this bottling, yet there is lovely richness underneath that will emerge gracefully over time. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2022.
This is a very solid set of wines from Michele Chiarlo, a producer who seems to be moving in the right direction with regards to quality.
