The 1994 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve is an outstanding effort from St. Francis. It exhibits an opaque purple color, followed by a big, gaudy, ostentatious nose of cedar, Asian spices, jammy black fruits, prunes, and toasty new oak. This intense, ripe, full-bodied wine possesses explosive richness, lavish pain grille notes, low acidity, and a heady, lusty, super-long finish. Yes, the new oak is high, but so is the wine's extract and fruit concentration. This is a Cabernet Sauvignon to be drunk with the stereo at high volume. As massive and rich as it is now, it should become more civilized with 3-5 years of cellaring. Anticipated maturity: now-2015. Tel. (707) 833-4666; Fax (707) 833-6534
