    The Tenuta delle Terre Nere 2020 Etna Rosso is made with declassified contrada fruit. The base is Nerello Mascalese, but a little Nerello Cappuccio and Nerello Mantellato is included, depending on the vintage. The wine is redolent of wild berry, mountain flower, dried herb, crushed white pepper and volcanic ash. It shows a silky finish with firm structure.

    The organic Tenuta delle Terre Nere 2019 Etna Rosso is a pretty, albeit informal, expression of Nerello Mascalese. The bouquet offers cassis and plenty of wild rose, with crushed stone and volcanic ash. This wine is built in a lean, mid-weight style; however, fruit in the 2019 vintage shows more richness and concentration overall. Indeed, this edition wears slightly more fruit weight with soft cherry and blackberry at the back. This is a great Etna Rosso to drink young while those primary tones are so nicely preserved.

    The 2017 Etna Rosso is a beautiful wine that manages to effectively communicate both the elegance and the power of this stellar appellation in Sicily. There is also a straightforward or straight-shooting aspect to the wine that adds to its focus and the sharpness of its aromatic delivery. Bright acidity and fine tannins add to that linearity and simplicity. This is 95% Nerello Mascalese with 5% Nerello Cappuccio. The wine is fermented in large oak casks, and it ages in large oak containers for up to 18 months. Some 120,000 bottles were made.

    Red cherries and wild strawberries predominate on this perfumed nose as well as slate, fruit tea, dust and charcoal, not mention elderberries and blueberries. Plenty of bright fruit on the full-bodied palate as well as fine tannins, fresh acidity and a medium chewy finish. So elegant. Drink now. Made from organic grapes.

    The 2015 Etna Rosso is mostly Nerello Mascalese with some Nerello Mantellato. Old vines range from 40 to 140 years in age. This is the estate's blended red. It does not see fruit selected from a single Contrada. Instead, this wine offers a panoramic expression with fruit from various sites, soil types and altitudes. The wine displays a moderate ruby hue and offers mild aromatic intensity. You get wild berry, ash and dried rose petal, but the delivery is subdued and understated. The mouthfeel is polished and tight.
